JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
The laboratory of Dr. Sisi Zheng, in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, at UT Southwestern, is studying how inflammation in the bone marrow environment can drive the early development of myeloid leukemias. We use in vitro modeling techniques and transgenic mice to understand how inflammation affects the growth of mutant and normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). We are seeking to recruit motivated individuals who are interested in performing research at the intersection of hematopoiesis and innate immunity. Individuals will have an opportunity to learn and use techniques in flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, Western blots, cloning, and quantitative PCR. In addition to performing experiments, the research assistant will also be responsible for mouse colony management and general lab management. Animal handling experience is helpful but not necessary. Bioinformatic experience is helpful but not necessary.
