Job description

Join to apply for the Research Technician II - Ophthalmology role at Baylor College of Medicine

This Research Technician II position will primarily entail assisting with the execution of research experiments. The RT will have extensive direct interactions with the Principal Investigator and have ample opportunity for learning and growth. Responsibilities are mainly focused on generating experimental data, including conducting experiments on the ocular surface, corneal injuries, managing mouse colonies, and molecular biology techniques. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Job Duties
  • Perform standard animal care and husbandry duties, including maintaining and managing animal colonies.
  • Conduct experiments such as immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue processing, imaging, PCR, and mouse handling.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data, and assist with publications.
  • Document experiments accurately in laboratory notebooks to enable replication.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and compliance with animal welfare protocols.
  • Assist with routine lab work and maintain the lab space.
  • Learn and become familiar with lab activities, assisting as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for the degree.
  • No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience working with animals in research, comfortable handling mice.
  • Two years of experience in a scientific laboratory is a plus.
  • Laboratory skills including animal colony handling, pipetting, sterile techniques, and equipment use.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
