Position HighlightsThe School of Nutritional Sciences & Wellness leads in cutting-edge Research, outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs, cooperative extension programs and continuing professional education that advance the discovery and translation of the roles of nutrition in optimizing health for people in Arizona, and beyond.

Dr. Ningning Zhao’s laboratory in the School of Nutritional Sciences & Wellness is seeking an enthusiastic, well-organized, and highly motivated researcher to work on interdisciplinary projects using both cell culture and mouse models in the field of cell biology and metal metabolism. The major focus of Dr. Zhao’s laboratory is to examine iron and manganese metabolism associated with human diseases including hereditary hemochromatosis, manganese overload disorders and neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will work independently conducting a diverse range of activities including mouse colony management, designing and performing molecular biology experiments, and preparing manuscripts for publication.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct molecular biology experiments using cell and mouse models.
  • Mouse colony management including mouse breeding and husbandry, genotyping, ear-tagging, tissue collection, and biological function evaluation.
  • Create and update animal inventory on a routine basis.
  • Perform general lab maintenance, maintain lab cleanliness, and handle routine waste disposal according to the University guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, organize data, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses.
  • Skills in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience and up to 1 year of relevant work experience.
