Department: Med-Ophthalmology

The Kuwajima Lab of the University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department, is seeking candidates for a Research Technician II. Our group develops therapeutic strategies to prevent retinal ganglion cell death and promote retinal axon regeneration after optic nerve injury.

Qualifications: BS in Biology or Neuroscience, with 1+ year experience in a lab setting preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Breeding and checking mice
• Perfusion of mice and dissection of the retina and axons
• Histological experiments (sectioning using cryostat), visualization of cells and axons with microscopes, and data analysis
• Molecular biology techniques such as PCR
• Writing and presenting research findings at lab meetings and Pitt ophthalmology meetings; contributing to journal manuscripts and grant applications

Physical Effort: The employee may need to sit and work at a laboratory bench or cryostat for extended periods to prepare cryosections.
