Job summary

The University of Arizona in Tucson is seeking a Research Technician I to support research on striated muscle function. You will perform DNA/RNA work, protein analysis, cell culture, and related assays, while also maintaining mouse colonies and helping with lab operations.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with full benefits. A high school diploma is required; a B.S. in a related field is preferred, and visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • B.S. degree with molecular biology/biochemistry experience preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry techniques.
  • Maintain mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, and tissue harvesting.
  • Assist with lab management: supplies, inventory, buffers, media, and reagents.

Job description

Research Technician I, Cellular and Molecular Medicine

Position Overview: The purpose of the position is to support research in a laboratory focused on understanding the function of striated muscle in health and disease. The tasks include conducting cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments, maintaining mouse colonies, and assisting with laboratory management.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform routine cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation, molecular cloning, western blotting, cell culture, cell biological assays, RT-qPCR, protein extraction, purification and quantification, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
  • Maintain mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, genotyping, tissue harvesting, and performing physiological assessments.
  • Assist with laboratory management by ordering supplies, maintaining an inventory of biological samples, caring for instruments, and preparing buffers, media, and reagents.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry principles.
  • Aptitude for quick learning and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to learn and perform cell culture, qPCR, protein analysis, and related laboratory techniques.
  • Skill in preparing reagents, buffers, and laboratory solutions.
  • Ability to handle laboratory mice.
  • Strong attention to detail with good communication and organizational skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S. degree with experience in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.
