The Research Technician, Biomedical Sciences (Baker Lab) position is primarily responsible for the continual support and maintenance of transgenic rodent colonies and the associated genotyping and documentation. Additional responsibilities will mainly consist of running traditional wet lab assays (Westerns, Polymerase Chain Reaction ( PCR ), Quantitave Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR), etc.) and performing rodent surgeries and associated rodent behavioral assays.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Day-to-day hands-on operational support of multiple transgenic rodent colonies. Daily responsibilities may include any of the following: husbandry, handling, breeding, weaning, and euthanasia.
2. Collect and process tissue samples for routine molecular genotyping assays in support of transgenic rodent colonies.
3. Perform small rodent surgery and post-surgical care
4. Record keeping and documentation related to all genotyping performed by the employee and students
5. Execute multiple common molecular assays as needed (ex. PCR , qPCR, Westerns, etc..)
6. Fill in as needed to support the continual running of preclinical rodent behavioral assays
7. Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
A minimum of one year of related experience.
Required experience with rodent colony management practices and husbandry within a research setting.
Required experience with PCR based genotyping
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Hands-on research experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related discipline
