Minimum Qualification Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience. College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Examples of Duties

1. Performs standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures requiring sterile technique, radioisotope labeling, preparing slides using staining techniques, and performing assays for proteins, RNA, DNA, or other cellular components.
2. Cares for laboratory animals, performs standardized experimental protocols, prepares animals for surgery, provides drug treatment, and cares for animals post-surgery.
3. Prepares laboratory equipment for use.
4. Keeps records of laboratory analyses and may enter data into a database.
5. Monitors the work of student assistants.
6. Prepares graphs, charts, and tables from experimental results for presentations and publications.
