Position Function:
This position will assist the soil fertility/crop production research team at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS in planning, coordinating, and conducting research on multiple crops (cotton, corn, soybean, rice). The position will also aid in keeping detailed research records as well as ensuring all needed supplies/materials remain stocked for normal use. The position will consist of a mix of field, greenhouse, laboratory, and office work. Required work hours will fluctuate depending upon season and work requirements.
This position will be located at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist in organizing and laying out, planting, fertilizing, spraying, and general maintenance of field trials.
2. Maintain research facilities and equipment in good working order following all safety and health standards.
3. Perform routine laboratory processing and analyses of soil and harvest samples. This could include drying and grinding soil, collecting seed weights, moisture, and test weights, ginning cotton lint samples, and plant mapping cotton and/or soybean plants.
4. Collect, compute, tabulate, and summarize data collected from research studies while maintaining accurate records of field operations, to include but not limited to planting, treatment application timing, irrigation, pesticide applications.
5. Ability to present research data at scientific meetings.
6. Supervise intermittent workers as needed.
7. Assist with other aspects of the overall soil fertility/crop production program as assigned by the lead scientist.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: Four (4) years of related work experience.
Licensure: Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. in agronomy, agribusiness, or related field is required, with at least two years of applicable experience in research.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The individual must be competent in written and oral communication, possess competency in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The individual must also have the ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimum direct supervision. Experience presenting data in a scientific arena. Familiar with agricultural production practices of the MS Delta. Field and laboratory work experience beyond the minimum required.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting. The applicant must be able to work outside in hot and cold weather, and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
