Genera l Description:

Genera l Description:

The R&D Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily activities within the lab. Responsibilities include, lab batches, conducting verification testing, assembling associated test fixtures and prototype assemblies, producing documentation such as test plans, procedures, and reports.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties:

• Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Environmental Health and Safety procedures, company safety rules, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in line with the company’s objectives and policies at all times.
• Makes daily batches as assigned by a R&D Management
• Makes large scale batches in the lab as well as on the compounding floor.
• Follows R&D Chemist’s instructions closely. Record and communicate any observations clearly.
• Maintains housekeeping in conformance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) standards.
• Adjusts batches and take specifications as instructed by the R&D Chemist.
• Generates necessary forms and labels to facilitate sample submission to external customers.
• Calibrates and performs regular maintenance on lab equipment as per R&D procedures.
• Tests and releases raw material samples for use in lab batches.
• Assists lab personnel in daily activities and tasks.
• Other duties may be assigned by R&D Manager.

Physical Requirements:

• Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Capable of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods
• Occasionally walking between buildings

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Chemistry and/or Biochemistry in process is preferred.
• Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in R&D Technician role in Consumer Products; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
• Experience in OTC product development is plus
• Knowledge of rules and regulation (FDA, CTFA, PCPC) for global formulation.
• Formulation experience in developing Hair Care, Personal Care, Fragrance, and Skin Care products such as natural/clean Products, creams, lotions, waxes, non-aerosol, etc. using reverse engineer method, product duplication, and developing new product innovation is a plus.
• Good technical foundation of formulated products including emulsions, surfactants, suspensions, structured liquids, and an understanding of material chemistry is preferred.
• Technical knowledge of chemistry, polymers, colorants, emulsions, surfactants, and other raw materials used in the cosmetic industry.
• Required Advanced reporting, designing and data analytic skills. Strong math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Advance PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
• Demonstration of continual education. Attends seminars or reads training materials for continuing education and shows initiative in learning industry trends.
• Ability to lead, thinks strategically, set, and achieve objectives, and influence organizational change. Strong time-management, organizational, planning people and leadership skills.
• Constantly work to improve processes and consistently reviews all existing procedures for possible change, maintains and expands technical knowledge. Makes suggestions for improvements
• Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing. Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly with Management and personnel and interpersonal relationships with employees at all levels.
