BSD PED - Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation - Applebaum Lab


About the Department

The Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology cares for patients and families with acute and chronic medical conditions, or other hematologic diseases, requiring the specialty knowledge and skills of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation. Dr. Mark Applebaum, a member of the section, focuses his laboratory research on understanding the biology of neuroblastoma and to translate findings into clinical use.


Job Summary

The principal contribution of this position is computational and administrative support in the Applebaum lab, designed to understand how machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches can be applied to clinical images from clinical care to develop new classification and prognostic biomarkers. The laboratory is looking for a bright, meticulous, motivated, and curious individual who would like to learn about translational medicine while bringing experience in these computational approaches.

The Research Technician will contribute to the application of principles and knowledge relevant to the administration and support of the research project. Under the direction of the principal investigator, will work as a proactive participant with a team of researchers investigating neuroblastoma. Computational responsibilities would include performing coding and analysis of clinical imaging from a radiomics and pathomics standpoint. Will help develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making contributions to methodology.

This at-will position is wholly funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Responsibilities

  • This job provides technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment performing basic laboratory techniques, research and analysis under direction.

  • Oversee with supervision the management of equipment and supplies .

  • Provides routine or standardized laboratory duties by collecting data in support of research projects under direct supervision.

  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

  • Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
