Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III within Medical Immunology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The primary role of the Research Teaching Specialist III (RTS III), under direction of the Principal Investigator, is to conduct highly specialized, technical research in tumor immunology with a focus on the discovery and development of T cell therapy for cancer, including tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and gene-engineered T cells. Active areas of research include T cell receptor discovery, membrane-tethered cytokine technologies, tumor resistance mutations, target antigen discovery, and preclinical development of new TCR-based treatments. The RTS III will work in collaboratively with clinical and laboratory research settings on a variety of projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with multidisciplinary research in the area of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy with a focus on the discovery and development of T cell therapy for cancer, including cell culture, immunologic assays, molecular assays, gene engineering, and animal experiments.
  • As assigned from the direction of the Principal Investigator, investigates, reviews, modifies, develops, and tests new analytical procedures and methodologies.
  • As assigned from the direction of the Principal Investigator, assists with the design of research studies, according to study protocols.
  • Functions as a lead or senior researcher in areas pertaining to specific expertise and trains personnel in the laboratory.
  • Interprets raw analytical data and presents and submits conclusions to the Principal Investigator for approval.
  • Prepares or participates in the preparation of sound, accurate, written and oral reports relating to research, grant, and other activities containing findings, conclusions, or recommendations.
  • Keeps detailed laboratory notebooks and stores digital research data in designated locations.
  • Follows laboratory rules and research protocols.
  • Collaborates with other laboratory members to maintain laboratory equipment, manage shared supplies and inventories, review and update laboratory protocols, and dispose of hazardous waste properly.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in a biomedical or related science, plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a biomedical or related science, plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
