Job Summary

Advanced Research Computing (ARC) inside of Information Technology Services at the University of Michigan is looking for a new member of the Storage Team to help manage storage services on behalf of researchers at the University of Michigan. This includes the Turbo High Speed Storage Service, Locker Storage Service, Data Den Research Archive, and the Scratch Filesystems on the High Performance Computing Clusters. You will work with other members of the storage team to build and maintain the current and next generation of research-oriented Storage Services used by researchers in disciplines across the University. You will report to the Research Computing Manager.

What You'll Do

• Manage ARC NAS storage systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Update and patch ARC NAS Storage systems, ensuring ARC services remain secure
• Monitor and troubleshoot storage system issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Implement and maintain storage provisioning, allocation, and capacity planning processes.
• Use appropriate technical tools to perform daily administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring) for ARC NAS services.
• Maintain documentation of storage systems and processes.

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, business computing or a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification or experience.
• 2+ years of experience in a storage administration role, with a focus on enterprise-level storage systems.
• 2+ years experience in a related role requiring customer service, confidentiality, timeliness, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and successfully design services and workflows.
• 1+ year experience in implementing storage and backup solutions.
• Demonstrate the ability to progress IT projects and work as a part of a storage team.
• Experience with at least one of: IBM Storage Scale (GPFS), IBM Storage Archive, and/or Dell PowerScale/OneFS.
• Experience with hierarchical storage management (HSM) systems including but not restricted to SAM-QFS, Black Pearl, HPSS, Spectrum Archive, with tape backends, specifically
• Experience with multiprotocol storage systems serving NFS and SMB/CIFS,
• Experience in a high-performance computing cluster environment.
• Experience with LDAP and Active Directory in a storage service.
• Experience with Globus and/or GridFTP
