Job summary

The Zhang Lab at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Research Specialist I to support studies on enteric neuroimmune and neuroepithelial interactions. The role involves work with mouse models, intestinal tissues, immune cells, and epithelial cells under PI supervision to advance understanding of gastrointestinal health and disease.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in biology, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, molecular/cell biology, or a related biomedical science field is preferred.
Previous research experience with mouse models, molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, cell culture, organoid culture, flow cytometry, microscopy, or gastrointestinal biology is a plus but is not required.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and interested in learning new experimental techniques and contributing to a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities

Performs preparation and analysis of mouse intestinal and other tissues.
Maintains mouse colonies, breeding, weaning, and genotyping support.
Conducts tissue processing, histology, and isolation of epithelial and immune cells.
Performs PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunostaining.
Helps with microscopy, organoid culture, and basic molecular biology tasks.
Maintains lab equipment and resources, and ensures safety compliance.
