Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Research Specialist I to join a basic science laboratory focused on understanding cellular trafficking in the GI tract and liver. You will work under the PI and contribute to a range of molecular and histological tasks in a collaborative setting.

The role requires a motivated, well-organized individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain detailed records and coordinate with team members to support research goals.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting.
• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may substitute for the two years of required experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other life or health science is preferred.
• Previous laboratory experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic lab maintenance including glassware washing, solution making, and stock tracking.
• Independently perform histological techniques, tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and immunostaining.
• Work with lab manager on mouse husbandry across multiple transgenic lines and tissue collection.
• Perform basic molecular biology techniques: DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and cell culture.
• Maintain accurate records and assist in protocol writing, data backup, and statistical analysis.
