Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Research Specialist I for a basic science lab focused on cardiac and connective tissue diseases. You'll perform histology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology techniques under supervision in a collaborative team.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, and a drive to contribute to team research efforts. Training will cover immunostaining, microscopy, and mouse husbandry alongside senior personnel.

Qualifications

• Pursuit and/or completion of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other life or health science is required.
• Experience with basic histology and molecular biology techniques is expected.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform basic histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding and sectioning.
• Perform immunostaining, immunohistochemistry techniques, and microscopy; acquire micrographs.
• Fix tissue and/or cells; embed tissue in paraffin or OCT; perform sectioning.
• Work closely with lab members; perform mouse husbandry on transgenic and targeted lines; learn genotyping and maintenance.
• Perform basic molecular biology techniques: DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis; RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR; cell culture; organoid maintenance.
