Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC Health) in Charleston, SC is seeking a Research Specialist I to maintain animal colonies and support day-to-day lab operations under the PI. Minimum requirements include a science degree or equivalent experience and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science; 1 year related work experience.
• High school diploma with 3 years advanced journey-level work experience in a clinical, basic science, animal care or research laboratory.
• Experience with immunological testing and flow cytometry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform experiments investigating cellular and molecular mechanisms in immune cell function using cell culture, cloning, and enzymatic assays.
• Work with small laboratory animals including tumor measurement, tissue collection, and analysis of blood and tissue samples.
• Maintain rodent colonies and assist in creating new models through crossbreeding; communicate with labs and update protocols.
• Maintain instruments, supplies, and notebooks; place orders and coordinate with suppliers.
