Responsibilities

  • Advise faculty, staff, and students on research protocols and Federal regulations for subjects in research, teaching, and testing.
  • Provide preliminary review of protocols for compliance with recommendations to supervisor and customers.
  • Provide expertise in research and teaching for investigators and committee members in compliance guidance.
  • Communicate with and provide timely responses related to compliance reviews, including issues of non-compliance.
  • Respond to questions regarding the compliance program.
  • Develop or modify standard operating procedures (SOPs) and office processes.
  • Review and update SOPs and coordinate committee meetings, including minutes and regulatory language.
  • Monitor committee email and coordinate with other offices and programs.
  • Monitor document submissions, reports, and notices for quality control and record-keeping.
  • Assist in the development of regulatory training materials.

The Research Security and Export Controls (RESEC) Office within the Texas A&M University Division of Research is dedicated to safeguarding the integrity, compliance, and ethical conduct of the research enterprise. Our team partners with faculty, staff, students, and research collaborators to navigate complex regulatory requirements related to export controls, conflicts of interest and commitment, research security, international collaborations, visiting scholars, and responsible conduct of research. Through expert guidance, education, and compliance oversight, we help advance groundbreaking research while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and university requirements, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and innovation.


What We Want

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and relationship-focused Research Security Coordinator who enjoys supporting a research enterprise through collaboration, service, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in a higher education or research environment, including conducting restricted party screenings, resolving potential matches, and vetting individuals and entities for research security concerns. Familiarity with Texas A&M System applications, including AggieBuy, FAMIS/Canopy, Maestro, and TrainTraq, is preferred. Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and the ability to build effective partnerships while navigating complex compliance requirements are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with software systems, including internal TAMUS systems.

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people.

  • Experience with export control and/or research security regulations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Working knowledge of Federal and University regulations pertaining to research compliance, and/or experience in sponsored research administration or education.

  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.


Essential Duties/Tasks

Protocol Compliance


  • Consults and advises faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of protocols based on knowledge of guidelines, and Federal regulations for subjects in research, teaching, and testing.

  • Provides preliminary review of protocols for compliance including providing recommendations to supervisor and feedback to customers.

  • Provides expertise in research and teaching for investigators and committee members in compliance guidance.

  • Communicates with and provides timely responses related to compliance reviews, including issues of non-compliance.

  • Responds to questions regarding the compliance program.


Program Support


  • Works with supervisor in the development or modification of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and office processes.

  • Reviews and updates SOPs.

  • Provides committee meeting coordination including completion of minutes and ensuring inclusion of appropriate regulatory language and addressing committee stipulations.

  • Monitors committee email inbox and coordinates with other offices and programs.

  • Monitors document submissions, reports, and notices for quality control, and maintains records.


Training and Development


  • Assists in the development of training materials and conducts regulatory training.


Export Controls


  • Assist with multiple areas associated with export control and research security reviews such as personnel screenings, purchase reviews, and prohibited technology reviews.

  • Assist with restricted party screening alerts, export control training monitoring and high-risk global engagement reviews.
