Job description

The University of Virginia, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking applicants for a Research Scientist position. The primary responsibilities for this position include research, scholarship, and service to the department, university, and professional community. The compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Establish an innovative research program building on UVA's strengths in signal processing, machine learning, and education.
• Collaborate with faculty and scientists at UVA and beyond.
• Generate research proposals and promote scholarship.
• Engage in service and mentor students to support program growth.
• Participate in ongoing projects with the UVA School of Education and Human Development.

Qualifications

• A Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science; PhD preferred, required by start date.
• Strong record of an innovative research program and funded research participation.
• At least four years of experience in computer vision, image processing, and machine learning.
• Minimum of two years of experience with developing and testing machine learning models for image analysis and computer vision.
• Expertise in artificial intelligence, including designing, testing, and analyzing machine learning architectures.
• Experience with image processing, analysis, and computer vision is desirable.
