Job summary

AlphaGov is seeking a Construction Research Scientist to support research and consulting opportunities involving construction schedules, workforce capacity, labor costs, and project delivery risk.

Assignments are scoped individually, with compensation and time commitments agreed upon before work begins. Experience with electrical and mechanical construction, data centers, utilities, energy, or major infrastructure projects is especially relevant.

Qualifications

• PhD preferred in construction engineering, civil engineering, construction management, operations research, industrial engineering, or related field.
• Comparable applied research experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Analyze how project delays affect workforce requirements, crew availability, and labor costs.
• Model resource constraints across multiple projects and scenarios.
• Develop and test scheduling, simulation, and forecasting methods using historical project data.
• Evaluate alternatives such as resequencing work, reallocating crews, overtime, and subcontracting.
• Define data requirements, validation methods, and measurable research objectives.
• Contribute technical methods, work plans, and findings to proposals and client deliverables.
• Experience with construction scheduling, resource allocation, project controls, or construction productivity research.
• Familiarity with Primavera P6, critical path scheduling, resource-loaded schedules, or similar methods.
• Explain technical findings clearly to project leaders and nontechnical decision-makers.
• Experience with electrical and mechanical construction, data centers, utilities, energy, or major infrastructure projects is especially relevant.

We are looking for someone who can evaluate how delays, competing projects, and limited skilled labor affect a project’s cost and completion date—and translate those findings into practical recommendations.

Scope of Work

• Analyze how project delays change workforce requirements, crew availability, and labor costs.

• Model resource constraints across multiple projects, including situations where crews remain on one project longer than planned.

• Develop and test scheduling, simulation, and forecasting methods using historical project data.

• Evaluate alternatives such as resequencing work, reallocating crews, overtime, and subcontracting.

• Define data requirements, validation methods, and measurable research objectives.

• Contribute technical methods, work plans, and findings to proposals and client deliverables.
