Hiring Rate - Flat: $72,190.
The Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) employs about 100 staff focused on identifying and minimizing environmental and engineered hazards in NYC, including water systems and radiation control. ESE oversees systems such as HVAC, building plumbing, NYC drinking water, recreational water facilities, nonpotable and reuse water systems, sewage, radioactive materials, and radiological equipment.

For Assignment Level I: A master's degree in an appropriate physical, biological, environmental science, or public health field from an accredited institution.
For Assignment Level II and above: A doctorate in an appropriate field with one year of supervisory or research experience, or a master's with three years of responsible research experience. All candidates must meet the minimum educational requirements and have at least two years of relevant experience. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can substitute for some experience requirements.
Note: Appointments are subject to a minimum one-year probationary period.
