Research Scientist 1

Location: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Remote Only)

Type: Part-time Temporary (1 year, 50% FTE, with possible extension)

Department: Comparative Media Studies/Writing, School of Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences

Job Number: 24927

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on NSF DRK-12 Research-Practice Partnership (RPP) focusing on computational modeling curricula across science subjects.
  • Conduct mixed methods research with urban school districts, engaging with district leaders and teachers.
  • Build and maintain relationships through communication and site visits (~1 hour/week).

Qualifications:

  • Required: Ph.D. in Learning Sciences, Science/STEM Education, or related fields; experience with design-based research, qualitative analysis, and handling confidential information.
  • Preferred: Background in science education, understanding of computational modeling, classroom teaching experience, familiarity with NGSS, and strong writing skills.

Additional Details:

  • Location: Washington, D.C. area with frequent school visits; candidate must arrange own transportation.
