Description

The University of Houston Law Center (Law Center) invitesapplications for a full-time, non-tenure track. Research Scholarposition for Health Law.

Applicants for the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree(or the equivalent) from an ABA-accredited law school and have anexcellent record of or potential for health law scholarship. Thesuccessful candidate will be affiliated with the Law Center’stop-ranked Health Law & Policy Institute (HLPI)(https://www.law.uh.edu/healthlaw/).

Under the supervision of the Director of HLPI, the position willsupport HLPI’s research portfolio, including grant-funded research,and identify additional grant and other funding opportunities;network with and advise the Texas Legislature and state regulatoryagencies on health law and policy issues; biennially update theControl Measures and Public Health Emergencies: A Texas Bench Book,and participate in stakeholder meetings on control measures andpublic health emergencies; and oversee the Texas health legislativefellows program.

The position will also work with HLPI’s faculty to advise andsupport health law student activities, including the HoustonJournal of Health Law & Policy and the Health Law Organization.The position will assist the HLPI Director and Program Directorwith planning events such as a lecture series and nationalconferences; developing marketing and promotional materials andmanaging HLPI’s web and social media presence; fundraising; andother activities that support HLPI’s mission as assigned. Theposition will also assist HLPI with other activities that supportHLPI’s mission as assigned. The position will have opportunities toattend national health conferences on behalf of HLPI, and conductand present research in health law and policy. The position has noregular teaching obligations at the Law Center, but may be giventhe opportunity to teach special courses on an overloadbasis.

This academic appointment is for 12 months, corresponding to UH’sfiscal year from the start of September to the end of the followingAugust. The initial appointment may commence mid-year, with futurerenewal years following the UH fiscal year.

The benefits-eligible, non-tenure track (NTT), appointment of theposition will have a one-year contract period with no presumptionof renewal. Reappointment for future years will depend onperformance and need for the position.

Subject to generally applicable policies at UHLC, this position iseligible to receive an annual allotment for travel and professionaldevelopment. As a non-tenure track position, the appointee willaccrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.
