Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Chemical Engineering seeks a Purchasing and Financial Coordinator to manage routine purchasing for research laboratories, provide financial and scheduling support, and act as a backup facilities liaison. The role interfaces with faculty, PhD students, and research staff to ensure timely procurement and accurate budget tracking.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of related experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field required.
  • 1-3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written skills; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Process routine purchase requests for faculty, PhD students, and research staff.
  • Track orders from request to delivery and follow up on delays with vendors.
  • Process reimbursements and card reconciliations; assist in vendor negotiations.
  • Coordinate freight, equipment deliveries, and outgoing shipments/repairs.
  • Maintain Oracle labor distributions and support post-award financial activities.
  • Run monthly financial and budget reports for leadership, faculty and student groups.
