Job summary

Inova Research Center is seeking a dedicated Research Pharmacist Coordinator - Oncology to join the team. This role is a full-time day shift (Monday - Friday) with a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

The Pharmacist coordinates clinical care, develops treatment guidelines, reviews drug therapy for safety and cost-effectiveness, and provides education to patients and staff. The ideal candidate will have PharmD or PharmD-related degree and oncology experience.

Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Experience: Three (3) years' Pharmacist oncology experience or residency or three years of Pharmacist research experience.
• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.
• Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients and suggests appropriate and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives.
• Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, interactions, adverse drug reactions and appropriateness of drug/dose.
• Performs all the functions/duties of the Pharmacist.
• Provides education and information to patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
• Provides training and education to Pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and Pharmacoeconomics and supervises Pharmacists and Pharmacy students.

Research Pharmacist Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

• Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.
• Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff.
• Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients and suggests appropriate and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
• Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions and appropriateness of drug/dose.
• Performs all the functions/duties of the Pharmacist.
• Provides education and information to patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
• Provides training and education to Pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and Pharmacoeconomics and supervises and instructs Pharmacists and Pharmacy students.
• Prepares and presents drug reviews, MUE criteria, antibiotic sensitivity reports, adverse drug reaction reports and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
• Participates in community educational programs and contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings.
• Reviews the performance and documentation of clinical activities of all Pharmacists including documentation of clinical and investigational drug activities.
• Monitors Pharmacy activities daily to ensure adherence to study protocols and dispensing procedures.
• Liaises with Principal Investigators, Trial Coordinators and/or Research Assistants to establish Pharmacy's role, determine fee schedules and to implement dispensing, compounding, and billing procedures.
• Maintains inventory and coordinates distribution of an up-to-date clinical investigational drug trials list.
• Communicates any concerns regarding ethical issues or deviation from established policies and procedures to the appropriate committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Experience: Three (3) years' Pharmacist oncology experience or completion of an ASHP approved post-graduate year one residency or three years of Pharmacist research experience
• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.
