Job summary

Inova Research Center is seeking a dedicated Research Pharmacist Coordinator - Oncology to join our team. This full-time day shift role supports development of treatment guidelines, cost-effective medication use, and coordination with investigators.

You will provide clinical consultation, monitor therapy for interactions, train pharmacists and students, and present reviews to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Inova offers sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Qualifications

• PharmD or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy
• 3 years' Oncology Pharmacist experience or ASHP PGY-1 or 3 years Pharmacist research
• Licensed Pharmacist in VA
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Facilitates development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.
• Facilitates identification and resolution of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with medical staff.
• Provides clinical consultation and clarifications to practitioners and patients, suggesting appropriate therapeutic alternatives.
• Monitors drug therapy regimens for interactions, adverse effects and appropriateness of dose.
• Performs all functions/duties of the Pharmacist.
• Provides education to patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
• Trains and educates Pharmacists and Pharmacy students; supervises staff.
• Presents drug reviews and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
• Participates in community educational programs and national meetings.

Research Pharmacist Coordinator Job Responsibilities

• Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.
• Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of cost-effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff.
• Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients and suggests appropriate and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
• Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions and appropriateness of drug/dose.
• Performs all the functions/duties of the Pharmacist.
• Provides education and information to patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
• Provides training and education to Pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and Pharmacoeconomics and supervises and instructs Pharmacists and Pharmacy students.
• Prepares and presents drug reviews, MUE criteria, antibiotic sensitivity reports, adverse drug reaction reports and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
• Participates in community educational programs and contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings.
• Reviews the performance and documentation of clinical activities of all Pharmacists including documentation of clinical and investigational drug activities.
• Monitors Pharmacy activities daily to ensure adherence to study protocols and dispensing procedures.
• Liaises with Principal Investigators, Trial Coordinators and/or Research Assistants to establish Pharmacy's role, determine fee schedules and to implement dispensing, compounding, and billing procedures.
• Maintains inventory and coordinates distribution of an up-to-date clinical investigational drug trials list.
• Communicates any concerns regarding ethical issues or deviation from established policies and procedures to the appropriate committee.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor degree in Pharmacy.
• Experience: Three (3) years' Pharmacist oncology experience or completion of an ASHP approved post-graduate year one residency or three years of Pharmacist research experience
• Licensed Pharmacist in the state of VA.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.
