Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory's NSLS-II Department seeks an individual to assist in Research Operations as a Cognizant Space Manager for NSLS-II labs and gas handling systems on beamlines. The role includes operations support, safety compliance, and procurement duties.

The successful candidate will coordinate with managers, ESH, beamline staff, and users to ensure safe lab practices, manage gas handling systems, and maintain equipment; they may work extended hours as needed and must complete

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field of study.
• Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Ability to wear a respirator when working with special gases.
• Experience with hazardous properties and safe handling of chemicals and chemical processing.
• Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide operations support, oversight, testing, and scheduling maintenance for lab and gas-handling systems.
• Act as liaison between management, staff, and users for safe operations.
• Procure gases, chemicals, materials, and equipment for systems and labs.
• Maintain and manage research equipment and daily operations.
• Ensure uninterrupted gas supply and safe lab practices are followed.
• Review and approve experimental setups for feasibility and safety.
