Job summary

Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee is seeking a dedicated clinical research professional to conduct studies and implement research protocols. You will coordinate patient participation, consent, visits and follow-ups, and assist in data collection under physician direction.

This role requires strong data handling, documentation, and collaboration with research teams to ensure accurate records and compliance with protocols.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
  • Minimum Required Education: Associate's degree
  • Minimum Required Experience: 2 years
  • Preferred Certification / Licensure(s): Wisconsin RN License

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, evaluate and follow patient participation in clinical research, including enrolling and consenting patients, organizing study visits and follow-ups, and responding to patient calls.
  • Assist in the collection and evaluation of data.
  • Under physician direction, perform protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responses; may administer medication or protocol-specific interventions.
  • Provide patient and family education; may educate staff on research protocols.
  • Complete forms for protocol documentation; maintain patient records and entry of data into databases; maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Identify problems in procedures related to protocol implementation and communicate with investigators; notify personnel of complications or untoward effects.
  • Assist with writing/submission of IRB protocols, grant applications, and consent forms; ensure compliance with IRB and regulatory requirements.
  • Distribute and mail samples as specified.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary

Conduct clinical research studies and implement research protocol. Provide and document research observations and perform precise collection of specimens.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, evaluate and follow patient participation in clinical research. This includes, but is not limited to identifying, enrolling and consenting patients, organizing study visits and follow-ups, responding to patient telephone calls.

  • Assist in the collection and evaluation of data.

  • Under physician direction, perform protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responses. May administer medication or types of protocol specific intervention.

  • Provide patient and family education. May provide staff education concerning research protocols as required.

  • Complete all forms required for proper protocol documentation. Maintain patient records. Enter patient data into database and other programs. Maintain confidentiality of all patient-related records including written and verbal communications.

  • Identify problems or obstacles in the system/procedures related to implementation of the research protocols and communicate to the study investigators. Notify appropriate personnel of any complications or untoward effects of research studies.

  • Assist with the writing and submission of IRB protocols, grant applications, and consent forms. Assure compliance with all relevant IRB and other regulatory agency requirements.

  • Distribute and mail samples as specified.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
