Job Description
Assists in research projects involving direct patient care with adherence to established protocols to ensure projects are carried out as directed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Works within scope of practice to perform clinical procedures. Collaborates with physicians and clinical/ancillary team members to maintain the integrity of the research study.
Job Responsibilities
- Participates in research project planning to assess the feasibility of protocol implementation based on institutional capabilities, therapy, and the population of interest.
- Collaborates with the Principal Investigator (PI) to determine patient eligibility for clinical trials, including documentation of criteria specified in the protocol.
- Ensures that the initial and ongoing consent processes are performed and documented in compliance with FDA regulations, Good Clinical Practice, institutional policies, sponsor requirements, IRB, and other applicable guidelines.
- Educates research subjects, families, and healthcare team members on study specifics and updates during the trial.
- Performs clinical procedures such as vital signs measurement, phlebotomy, specimen collection, electrocardiograms, administration of investigational agents (under PI supervision), IV placement, catheterization, and patient assessments or questionnaires.
- Prepares for and facilitates audits, including those by the FDA, IRB, and other internal or external monitors and auditors.
- Evaluates disease response and physical assessment data with the PI to determine response per protocol.
- Collaborates with the PI to organize all phases of grant submission and ensure adherence to study budgets and clinical trial agreements.

Job Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within five years of employment.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State is required, along with any specialized certifications as needed.
- Oncology experience is preferred.
- Research experience is preferred.
