Job description

Summary
Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.

Essential Functions
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
- Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
- Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
- Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Position Summary
The Shalhout Lab is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented research technician and clinical research coordinator to join our team and support a range of critical research activities. This role involves direct patient interaction, including obtaining informed consent, guiding patients to phlebotomy appointments, and ensuring a positive experience. The RT1 will also be responsible for data collection and entry, statistical analysis, data visualization, and managing regulatory submissions under IRB protocols. Additionally, the position includes coordination of tumor tissue retrievals for molecular analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful research in a collaborative environment.

Essential Duties
- Perform data collection and abstraction on complex electronic health record data.
- Assist with patient biospecimen, blood, and tissue collection.
- Obtain and document informed consent in accordance with IRB protocols.
- Escort and assist patients during clinical research visits.
- Manage clinical research data using electronic data capture systems like REDCap.
- Generate basic data visualizations and summaries for reporting.
- Maintain regulatory documentation in compliance with IRB requirements.
- Summarize and organize data using scientific techniques.
- Report project status and assist in data validation.
- Handle biohazardous substances safely after training.
- Coordinate research procedures and schedules.
- Assist in training team members and demonstrate laboratory techniques.
- Conduct literature reviews and suggest new techniques.
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks as needed.
- Attend meetings and perform other related duties.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in biology, public health, biochemistry, chemistry, or related field required. Prior experience with patient consenting and biospecimen collection is a plus. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with HIPAA compliance awareness.

Working Conditions
Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and biohazardous materials.

Physical Requirements
Ability to see clearly at close range and perform tasks requiring fine vision; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
