Job summary

University of New England seeks an early‑career laboratory technician or master’s‑degree qualified laboratory manager to support the Harrison Lab. The role supervises undergrads, maintains operations, and ensures stocked supplies while keeping detailed records and solving problems.

Responsibilities include preparing reagents, equipment maintenance, data analysis, histology, qPCR, and tissue culture with neuronal cell lines. Strong organizational skills and independence are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, biology, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience with the above lab techniques (for technician level).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be detail‑oriented.
  • Self‑motivated, able to prioritize tasks, and willing to learn new skills.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for new and challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reagents and standards according to lab SOPs.
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain complete and accurate logs containing methodological details.
  • Maintain laboratory in a clean and safe fashion.
  • Help undergraduate scholars with lab work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Conduct data analysis and bioinformatics.
  • Perform histology, immunostaining, and microscopy.
  • Run tissue culture experiments with cell lines and/or primary neurons.
  • Perform qPCR.
  • Data analysis and bioinformatics.
  • Histology procedures: sample collection, processing, staining, microscopy.
  • Tissue culture techniques: sterile technique, cell propagation, plasticware coating, cell seeding, transfection.
  • Molecular biology workflows: plasmid preparation, qPCR, RNA immunoprecipitation, library preparation for high‑throughput sequencing.
  • Protein assays: ELISA and Western blotting.

Job description
