Job summary

University of Michigan in Ann Arbor seeks a Research Laboratory Technician Associate to support animal husbandry and genetics work in the lab. The role involves maintaining mouse colonies, assisting with research analyses, and coordinating data entry for mouse breeding and genotype tracking.

You will perform basic biochemistry and physiology experiments with platelets, handle blood samples from humans and animals, and help with IRB reporting.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.
  • Animal husbandry and genotyping experience.
  • Willing to handle and process blood cells including platelets from human and animal.
  • Willing to learn how to consent human subjects and draw blood for research studies.
  • Ability to work in a team project environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee animal husbandry for colonies in the lab.
  • Maintain mouse colonies, lab inventories, optimization of lab protocols and service contracts, and oversee lab inspections.
  • Perform basic biochemistry and physiology experiments with platelets.
  • Handle human and mouse blood and assist existing staff in analyses (flow cytometry, aggregometry, microscopy, western blot).
  • Mouse breeding, genotyping and handling of transgenic and knock-out mouse lines.
  • Collect and enter data into a mouse-breeding/mouse-genotype database.
  • Participate in reporting human data to the IRB.
  • Consent subjects and conduct blood draws for research studies and the Platelet Physiology and Pharmacology Core.
