Job summary

The Allen Discovery Center in Medford, MA seeks an experienced Research Lab IT Manager to lead IT services for a busy laboratory environment. You will manage large-scale research data, support researchers and faculty, and align technology with institutional standards.

Responsibilities include evaluating new hardware and software, partnering with Tufts IT, and ensuring reliable, secure research computing. Remote options are limited; on-site presence is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years delivering IT support in a research or scientific environment.
• Proficiency in Windows, MacOS, Linux server administration.
• Knowledge of LANs, network protocols, firewalls, and data security practices.
• Experience with MATLAB, R, Python in research settings is a plus.
• Excellent communication and end-user training capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Consult with center leadership to identify technology needs and plan IT strategy.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of research technology infrastructure and assets.
• Provide first-line support for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• Coordinate software licensing, inventory, and lifecycle management.
• Develop documentation and user resources for IT services.
• Mentor junior staff and student workers in IT practices.
