Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Laboratory Animal Technician Trainee to perform general care and maintenance of laboratory animals and facilities in a research and teaching environment. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with prior lab animal experience and may involve some weekend and holiday work.

Daily duties include safely handling animals, maintaining housing, inventory, and documentation, and providing enrichment under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with lab animal experience.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Capable of performing duties as Laboratory Animal Technician Trainee (LATT).
• Safely handles and restrains all animal species with proper ID and location.
• Assembles caging equipment to provide safe housing for all species.
• Completes and documents weekly supply and diet inventory.
• Communicates information to clinical, supervisory and management personnel in writing and verbally.
• Provides species-specific environmental enrichment items and assists with enrichment needs.
