RHI Magnesita is seeking a Research Engineer to join our team in Ashtabula, Ohio. You will apply your technical expertise to develop and improve isostatically pressed, resin-bonded refractory products used in continuous casting applications.

You will play a critical role in advancing product performance, optimizing manufacturing processes, and developing innovative, cost-effective solutions through applied research and development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a materials science or engineering field is required.
• Ceramic/refractory knowledge considered a plus.
• 2–4 years in an applied technical, manufacturing, materials, or research setting preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with practical translation of research.
• Excellent project management and ability to handle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve isostatically pressed, resin-bonded refractories from lab to pilot and production stages.
• Conduct applied research on resin-bonded graphitic materials and related products.
• Plan and execute plant trials with Operations and Quality teams.
• Support field trials with Technical Marketing and Sales to prove value.
• Investigate failures and help root-cause analysis for customer issues.
• Collaborate with global R&D and regional teams on strategic projects.
