Job summary

RHI Magnesita N.V. in Ashtabula, Ohio, seeks a Research Engineer to advance isostatic, resin-bonded refractory products for continuous casting.

You will work across the product lifecycle from lab research to plant trials, collaborating with Operations, Quality, Technical Marketing, Sales, and Global R&D to move new technologies to market. You will develop materials, run trials, analyze results, and support manufacturing with data-driven insights while maintaining technical leadership in

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a materials/ceramics/refractory field or related engineering discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate findings to practical use.
• Experience in applied technical, manufacturing, materials, or research environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop new materials and refractory solutions for continuous casting from lab concept to commercial implementation.
• Conduct applied research on resin-bonded graphitic materials, glazes, raw materials, and product development.
• Identify opportunities via customer engagement, industry research, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Design, coordinate, and evaluate plant and production trials with Operations and Quality teams.
• Supervise raw material and product development trials and analyze results.
• Support field trials with Technical Marketing and Sales to validate performance and value.
• Investigate product failures and perform root cause analysis.
• Analyze competitor products and emerging technologies to identify market opportunities.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing operations as needed.
• Coordinate research technician activities and project workloads.
• Collaborate with global R&D teams and regional operations on strategic initiatives.
• Drive projects independently with sound technical decisions.
