Job summary

JILA is seeking a Professional ResearchAssistant to join the Electronics Shop. The role focuses on providing specialized technical support, consulting on electronics research design, and mentoring students and researchers in analog/digital electronics, production, and repair.

Collaboration with scientists is central to advancing research across multiple projects. The position offers salary and comprehensive benefits through CU Boulder, with opportunities to learn and apply advanced electronics

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EE/CE/Engineering Physics or related STEM.
• Experience producing sophisticated digital/analog electronics designs to meet stringent performance requirements.
• Experience layout/design/assembly/troubleshooting of complex PCB projects.
• Working knowledge of KiCad and collaboration with researchers.
• Understanding of electronics design concepts, safety, applications, theory, equipment use and maintenance including RF design, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, CAD software, and electronics diagnostics.
• Experience tutoring students in a Higher Education environment.

Responsibilities

• Construct and test new equipment to meet stringent specifications from JILA Scientists.
• Produce custom-made items on short notice using shop tools like drill press, mill, soldering equipment.
• Provide mentoring and instruction to JILA students and shop customers; answer inquiries and provide guidance on electronics design options.
• Learn new technologies to support current and future research needs.
• Support students and researchers with electronics production and design needs in coordination with Electronics Engineers.
• Follow guidance to develop design, testing, and repair of electronics devices.
