Siemens is seeking qualified candidates for a Research & Development Summer–Fall Co-op in the Electrification and Automation division, based in Wendell, North Carolina. You’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting power distribution systems and Future Grids technologies in a collaborative environment.

This co-op requires current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s program, NC State University co‑op participation, and on-site work 40 hours weekly during Summer and Fall 2027.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling tools.
  • Candidates must be enrolled with the North Carolina State University co‑op program.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time (40 hours per week) during the Summer and Fall 2027 semesters.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting research and development (R&D) projects for Low Voltage Motor Control Centers, including Variable Frequency Drive and Disconnect Switch units.
  • Creating and updating 3D models of copper and sheet metal assemblies to support manufacturing operations.
  • Developing part and assembly drawings and verifying design accuracy through visual comparisons and fit checks.
  • Supporting prototype builds by preparing JT files and assisting with hands‑on build activities.
  • Completing assigned product support tasks related to non‑conformances and identified design errors.

As an intern with the Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting power distribution systems that keep the world running today, while also being exposed to our Future Grids technologies that are shaping the power systems of tomorrow - all within a collaborative, impact‑driven environment.

We are seeking qualified candidates to join our Research & Development Summer – Fall Co-op beginning in May 2027. This position will be based at our Wendell, North Carolina office location.

You’llmake an impact by:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling tools.
  • Candidates must be enrolled with the North Carolina State University co‑op program.
  • Ability to work on‑site full‑time (40 hours per week) during the Summer and Fall 2027 semesters.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • This co‑op opportunity is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation. Applicants who have completed or expect to complete their educational program before or during the assignment period are encouraged to explore our Early Career Development Program opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with 3D modeling or drafting tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX).
  • Exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
  • Familiarity with low‑voltage power distribution equipment.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to support a culture of quality.
  • Willingness to learn tools, processes, and engineering methods.
