Job summary

Job description

RESEARCH DATA ANALYST I – Department of Water Resources, Sacramento County.
Salary range: $4,469.00 – $6,922.00 per month. (New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.)

Job Description and Duties

The incumbent in this Research Data Analyst I position will perform the more independent, responsible, varied and complex data research and analysis for the Department-wide Architectural and Engineering (A&E) Contracts Program, including gathering, mining, populating, manipulating, interpreting, and comparing structured and unstructured data associated with A&E contract costs and rates, as well as organizing, cataloging, and maintaining such data for the program.

Desirable Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have experience in strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and connect insights across multiple datasets. Experience performing statistical analysis, cost modeling, market research, and benchmarking using public and private sector data. Ability to gather, validate, normalize, and analyze structured and unstructured data from diverse internal and external sources. Proficiency with analytical databases, data tools, and financial or contract-related reporting systems such as SAP. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences. Effective presentation skills, including the ability to deliver or support presentations in virtual, hybrid, and in-person settings. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem‑solving ability, with initiative to identify improvements in data quality, processes, or workflows. Experienced in creating and managing contract documents for public, private, and/or national entities.
