  • Support the development and implementation of research and evaluation plans, protocols, procedures, and data collection activities, with opportunities to independently lead the development of tools and processes as skills and experience develop.
  • Support the development of surveys, interview and focus group guides, recruitment materials, and other research and evaluation tools, with opportunities to independently lead the development of selected tools as experience and skills develop.

Research Coordinator

The mission of Healthy Start is to improve maternal and child health and to reduce poor birth outcomes and infant mortality in Allegheny County.

Overview

The Research Coordinator is a public health professional who supports the coordination, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of Healthy Start's research and community-engaged initiatives. Working under the direction of the Research Manager, this position coordinates day-to-day project activities; manages timelines, deliverables, and communications; supports research and evaluation activities; and helps ensure that community members and people with lived experience meaningfully inform research and program development. The Research Coordinator works across Healthy Start's research portfolio, which may include maternal and child health, birth equity, health equity, reproductive health, chronic disease, community-based research, and other mission-aligned initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Research & Project Coordination & Evaluation
  • Coordinate assigned research, evaluation, and public health projects from planning through completion, including workplans, timelines, milestones, deliverables, and task assignments.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate barriers, risks, and emerging needs to the Research Manager.
  • Coordinate project meetings and facilitate communication among Healthy Start staff, community partners, researchers, organizations, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of research and evaluation plans, protocols, procedures, and data collection activities, with opportunities to independently lead the development of tools and processes as skills and experience develop.
  • Support the development of surveys, interview and focus group guides, recruitment materials, and other research and evaluation tools, with opportunities to independently lead the development of selected tools as experience and skills develop.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
  • Collaborate with and support Community Health Advocates (CHAs), community members, and other partners to incorporate lived experience and community knowledge into research.
  • Support and evaluate meaningful community involvement throughout the research and evaluation process.
  • Coordinate community advisory groups, workgroups, trainings, meetings, and other engagement activities, including leading an annual Community Event in coordination with the annual EMBRACE Summit and Healthy Start Symposium.
  • Build and maintain respectful, productive relationships with community, academic, healthcare, and organizational partners.
Research Translation & Dissemination
  • Support research dissemination and knowledge translation activities, with opportunities to independently lead selected activities as experience and skills develop.
  • Contribute to the development of reports, research summaries, abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, and other products, with increasing responsibility for independently developing selected products as experience and skills develop.
  • Prepare research findings for professional, community, and internal audiences.
Grants & Organizational Research Support
  • Complete required human subjects research training and maintain certifications.
  • Support other staff in completing their required human subjects research training and maintain certification.
  • Support the development of grant applications, proposals, progress reports, funder deliverables, project reporting, budgets, resource projections, and related documentation, with opportunities to independently lead selected components as experience and skills develop.
Qualifications
  • Advanced training in the field of public health.
  • Experience in research, public health, project coordination, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects, manage timelines and deliverables, and communicate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of research methods, evaluation, data management, and community-engaged research.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, interpersonal, and technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with REDCap, Qualtrics, or similar research/data platforms preferred.
  • Experience with Monday.com, or similar project management platforms preferred.
Other Requirements
  • Required Act 33/34 and FBI clearances.
  • Valid unrestricted Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance for work-related travel.
  • COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with Healthy Start policy.
  • Ability to travel locally for research activities, community engagement, meetings, and organizational events.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of participant, employee, partner, research, and agency information.
Supervisory Relationship

This position reports to the Research Manager and has no direct supervisory responsibility. The Coordinator may coordinate the work of interns, Community Health Advocates, consultants, volunteers, and project-specific staff as assigned.

Compensation

Salary range: $49,000 - $56,000 annually, commensurate with experience, with a comprehensive benefits package. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
