Job summary

Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska seeks a Research Coordinator to assist the Medical Director with oversight of research activities, data management and study coordination in a rural health setting. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Position Summary:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Medical Director, the Research Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Medical Director with oversight of research activities in YKHC, managing research data, coordinating data queries, and supervising YKHC research staff. This position ensures complete, accurate and consistent data for reporting to the sponsor and regulatory bodies. The Research Coordinator supervises staff, coordinates YKHC study activities, processes data using a range of computer applications to support collection and management of study data, maintains the integrity and security of study data, and communicates with researchers to assure that research studies are conducted in accordance with Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation Policies and study guidelines and regulations.

Position Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in health sciences, Public Health or Healthcare Management.

Four (4) years public health experience to include data management and information technology required. One (1) year of supervisory experience. Experience managing research studies, including clinical trials.

Good Clinical Practice and CITI Biomedical Research certification

Office equipment (i.e., telephone, computer, fax machine, copy machine, etc.) and medical equipment as appropriate for the position. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Must be proficient in Cerner Electronic Medical Records system.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to and implement rigid protocol guidelines and work within strict schedules and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with current research methods including CDC, FDA and IHS research regulations.
  • Knowledge of epidemiology and statistical compilation and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must have the ability to communicate, retrieve and present data and information both verbally and written.
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to work in a cross-cultural setting
  • Person must demonstrate ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents; respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints; make effective and persuasive speeches/presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, outside agencies, and/or board of directors. Must be able to verbalize and write effective program summaries for internal and external agencies.
  • Person must demonstrate ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, odds ratios, and proportions. Must be able to work with complex computer statistical programs such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS and Microsoft Access.
  • Person must demonstrate ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs); and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to take complex information and statistical data and put it into comprehensive and understandable lay terms to disseminate to the general public.

Person must demonstrate ability to hire and supervise staff, develop work schedules, develop SOP, manage contracts, and manage grant funding and purchases.
