Job summary

Job description

Research associates are expected to coordinate and support studentsin the development and execution of research tasks and to supportfaculty investigators, senior researchers, and laboratorypersonnel. The job consists of supporting the principalinvestigator in the development and execution of research in thearea of materials science, plasma spray, laser/materialsinteractions, and/or ceramic oxide coatings through the gatheringof data and its analysis through computational and analyticalmethods, through the writing and publishing of scientific papers inpeer-reviewed journals, and through the identification andsubmission of applications for extramural funding.

Job Responsibilities:

The applicant will hold a PhD in ecology and have expertise in theanalysis of fossil pollen from South American tropical ecosystems.The position will require a mixture of chemical preparation ofpollen samples, identification and counting of fossil pollen, dataanalysis in R, and supervision of undergraduate and graduatestudents engaged in research. Development and editing of scientificmanuscripts leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals isrequired. Field work in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countriesin South America, where sediment cores will be raised from remotelocations, will be expected. The applicant will provide ad-hoclectures to undergraduates and graduate students.
