Job summary

Colossal Biosciences seeks a talented stem cell biologist to advance avian embryonic stem cell culture, genome editing, and embryo reintroduction using cutting edge technologies. The role is based in Dallas, TX with relocation assistance available.

You will culture avian stem cells, derive lines, and collaborate on editing workflows validated by NGS sequencing; maintain rigorous lab records and report progress in meetings and written form.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS/MA/MS in biological sciences or related field.
  • Experience with embryonic stem cell cultures.
  • Experience manipulating embryos under a microscope.
  • Experience in cell line derivation, culture, propagation, and transfection methods.

Responsibilities

  • Culture avian embryonic stem cells and test culture conditions.
  • Derive and expand stem cell cultures from avian blastodiscs.
  • Characterize QC of stem cell cultures and assess editing efficiency.
  • Inject stem cells into avian blastodiscs and track outcomes.
  • Prepare progress reports and present findings to the team.

Job description

An affiliate of Colossal Biosciences is looking for a talented stem cell biologist with an interest in the manipulation of avian embryonic stem cells. You will work closely with other lab team members in efforts to innovate on protocols of avian stem cell culture, genome editing, and reintroduction into embryos using cutting edge technologies.

This position is based in Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Culture avian embryonic stem cells, test novel cell culture conditions, transfect cells, sort monoclonal cell lines, screen and expand cells according to latest protocols and newly developed approaches
  • Using a dissection microscope, collect avian blastodiscs from avian embryos and derive stem cell cultures
  • Characterize and QC avian stem cell cultures
  • Inject stem cells into avian blastodiscs
  • Work with team members to assess efficiency of editing through NGS sequencing approaches
  • Attends lab meetings, prepares reports, and presentations on the progress of projects
  • Great organizational skills and excellent laboratory record maintenance
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with embryonic stem cell cultures
  • Experience manipulating embryos under a microscope
  • Experience in cell line derivation, culture, propagation, and transfection methodologies
  • Experience in molecular biology (eg, nucleic acid and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis)
  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunostaining, cell microscopy
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
  • BA/BS/MA/MS in biological sciences, cell biology, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or any science related field.
