Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Language Technologies Institute seeks a Research Associate to advance multimodal fusion research. The role involves designing experiments, analyzing results, and contributing to publications within a collaborative academic team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years of research experience required.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
  • May program software in support of job functions.
  • Attends project meetings.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a world‑renowned research and education hub at the forefront of natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human‑computer interaction. Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms. LTI is seeking a Research Associate to join the team! The researcher will contribute to a multidisciplinary project investigating multimodal fusion, team dynamics, and team effectiveness. Responsibilities include designing and running experiments on multimodal data, analyzing results, developing and evaluating fusion approaches, and contributing to scientific publications. This role will also participate in meetings with project sponsors and collaborators, communicate research progress, and prepare technical presentations and project slides. The position requires strong research and analytical skills, experience with machine learning and multimodal data, and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative research team.
