Job summary

National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, CO is seeking a full-time Research Associate to design and fabricate devices based on superconducting elements. The role supports multiple collaborations and aims to deliver next generation devices.

You will work in the Boulder Microfabrication Facility to create micro- and nano-electronics, sensors for EM radiation and readout circuitry, using superconducting materials at cryogenic temperatures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
• Experience processing semiconductor wafers using a range of fabrication equipment.
• Experience in the fabrication or testing of superconducting or low temperature devices may be valuable but is not a requirement.
• U.S. Citizenship is preferred for this position and U.S. Legal Permanent Residence is a minimum requirement.

Responsibilities

• Design and fabricate micro- and nano-electronics in the NIST Boulder Microfabrication Facility.
• Fabricate sensors for electromagnetic radiation and readout circuitry for the same sensors.
• Use superconducting materials, operate at cryogenic temperatures, and explore quantum effects.
• Support testing or perform testing of sensors and readout circuitry at ambient and cryogenic temperatures.
• Travel to present results at scientific conferences and attend collaboration meetings.
