Job summary

The Allen Institute in Seattle is seeking a Research Associate I to execute a variety of laboratory tasks in a high‑throughput environment, following SOPs. The position supports animal care and research operations within Lab Animal Services.

You will perform mouse handling, tissue collection, and documentation while adhering to SOPs and regulatory requirements. Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field.
• 2+ years of related work experience and/or training.
• AALAS certification is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of mouse genetics, anatomy, and behavior.
• Ability to learn LIMS, LabTracks and other software systems.

Responsibilities

• Administer compounds to mice (iv, ip, sc, po, im, ro, icv).
• Perform euthanasia and tissue collections.
• Unwell animal triage and pre-/post-operative care for mice.
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and reporting using established methods.
• Communicate with stakeholders in writing and verbally regarding tasks and responsibilities.
• Daily vivarium maintenance and shift-specific procedures.
