Job summary

The Research Associate 1 position at Moffitt Cancer Center, within the Center for Antibody & Protein Engineering (CAPE) in Tampa, focuses on molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and yeast surface display. The role also supports daily lab management and ordering activities.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or a related field with training in molecular biology or biochemistry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science (biology/biochemistry/biomedical engineering) required with research training in molecular biology or biochemistry.
• Experience with molecular biology or biochemistry is required; familiarity with structural biology, cancer biology or immunology preferred.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Cloning recombinant DNA constructs including plasmid design, DNA preparation, transformation, and sequence verification.
• Maintaining cell cultures.
• Conduct yeast surface display experiments, including library handling, expression analysis, and selection assays.
• Expressing and purifying proteins in bacterial, insect and mammalian systems using standard biochemical techniques (affinity chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography).
• Lab management duties such as equipment maintenance, generation of common reagents, and purchase orders.
