Job summary

Colossal Biosciences is seeking a Research Associate in Dallas to provide hands-on experimental support for base editing workflows. This role involves executing experiments, generating data, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to advance genome editing strategies.

You will support project execution within the Genome Engineering Technology team. Candidates should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field and experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Exciting employee benefits are offered.

Job description

The Research Associate provides hands‑on experimental support for base editing workflows (ABE/CBE) across genome engineering programs. This role is responsible for executing experiments, generating high-quality data, and supporting workflow optimization within the Genome Engineering Technology (GET) team. The position works closely with the Base Editing Manager and cross‑functional partners to advance genome editing strategies for species restoration. This is an individual contributor role that reports to the Base Editing Manager.

This position will be based on‑site in Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Execute base editing experiments (ABE, CBE) in mammalian cell systems
  • Perform cell culture, including transfection, passaging, and cryopreservation
  • Prepare and handle base editing reagents, including guides and plasmids
  • Conduct nucleic acid extractions and downstream editing outcome analyses (e.g., PCR, sequencing, flow cytometry)
  • Support optimization of editing efficiency, specificity, and delivery methods
  • Maintain accurate experimental records in Benchling (ELN)
  • Assist with reagent inventory management and lab organization
  • Collaborate with genome engineering teams to support project execution
  • Troubleshoot experimental workflows and contribute to protocol improvements
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and cell‑based assays
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (PCR, DNA/RNA handling, cloning)
  • Familiarity with genome editing technologies (CRISPR, base editing preferred)
  • Experience with flow cytometry or cell characterization methods is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioengineering, or related field
  • 1 or more years of relevant laboratory experience (industry or academic)
  • Hands‑on experience with cell culture and molecular biology required
