Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field, with at least 1-2 years of laboratory experience.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture.
- Experience with RNA isolation, RNA quality control, RNA sequencing library preparation, and NGS.
- Experience with one or more of the following: oligonucleotide or siRNA perturbation, reporter assays, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, or RT-qPCR.
- Familiarity with RNA post-transcriptional processing such as splicing, translation or cleavage and polyadenylation.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot experiments, interpret results in the context of a research question, communicate clearly, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Daily functions
- Maintain, passage, treat, transfect, and preserve mammalian cell lines. Monitor cell health and recognize potential issues with growth, media, or contamination.
- Perform molecular biology experiments, including DNA and RNA purification, plasmid preparation, PCR, electrophoresis, and preparation of solutions and dilutions.
- Conduct experiments, including reporter and minigene assays, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, and preparation of next generation sequencing libraries. Perform additional RNA or protein assays as project evolves.
- Prepare reagents, maintain supplies and equipment, and keep the laboratory organized and ready for experiments. Follow applicable site safety procedures, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Follow experimental protocols carefully, use appropriate controls, and maintainaccurate sample identities and records, including when handling large numbers of samples.
- Assess the quality of samples and experimental results. Investigate unexpected findings, troubleshoot technical problems, and discuss possible explanations and next steps with the project scientist.
- Work independently to prioritize experiments and meet timelines while collaborating with the project scientist and other members of the research group.
- Use spreadsheets, electronic laboratory notebooks, and presentation software to document experiments, track samples, organize data, and communicate results.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues, take direction and feedback, and share methods or provide hands-on training when appropriate.
- Ability to work on-site at South San Francisco.
