Designs, executes, and evaluates research projects carried out by the department. Performs simple to complex laboratory/field research following prescribed protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science-Related Field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six Months of Laboratory Experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

- Run thromboelastography on human blood samples and document results.
- Follow patient treatment courses and coordinate blood collection for research studies.
- Coordinate research studies with other labs, ensuring subject information is deidentified and confidential.
- Adhere to all protocol and policy requirements for human subjects research, including CITI training updates.
- Screen and evaluate possible study subjects for clinical studies.
- Arrange and coordinate meetings with researchers to assist with projects, data review, troubleshooting, and preparation for division-wide research meetings.
- Provide input to improve study procedures and communication.
- Ensure necessary supplies and equipment are in stock and functioning properly.
- Coordinate the monthly Division of Surgical Oncology research meetings and maintain project lists.
- Build and maintain clinical databases for cancer patient outcomes.
- Collect and log patient blood and tumor samples.
- Complete statistical analysis for research projects.
- Write research results, including creating figures and tables.
- Perform laboratory/field experiments following prescribed protocols.
- Observe, record, and report data and results to the PI.
- Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain lab/field equipment.
- Prepare reagents, media, and solutions for analysis.
- Demonstrate techniques and equipment to personnel and students.
- Maintain records, statistics, and reports as mandated.
- Procure supplies and materials for research activities.
- Sterilize and clean glassware and dispose of specimens properly.
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
- Review safety procedures for handling hazardous substances.
- Attend required meetings.
Physical Requirements
- Hand/eye coordination for using instruments and tools; light physical effort involved.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Limited discretion regarding walking and standing.
Working Environment
- Lab space in HSC.
- Shared office and computer space in HSC.
- Shared clinic space in POC and MBRCC.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of material properties and lab/field techniques.
- Skills in operating lab/field equipment.
- Ability to understand and execute complex commands.
- Ability to learn research protocols.
- Proficiency in computer operation.
- Ability to organize findings for presentations.
