Job summary

Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. in Hampton, VA is seeking a Research Associate to provide daily care of laboratory animals and support in vivo studies. You will perform cage changes, dosing, sample collection, and assist with tissue culture as needed.

The role requires the ability to follow SOPs, work independently or on a team, lift up to 30 pounds, and maintain accurate records. BS/BA or Associate degree with related experience is expected; AALAS certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with animals in a lab setting.

• Experience in or ability to learn animal-based research techniques.
• Experience in or ability to learn general laboratory techniques such as micro pipetting and aseptic technique.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds and perform moderate manual labor.

Responsibilities

• Perform cage changes, clean cages and racks, feed, weaning litters, animal identifications and monitor animals.
• Operate and maintain the Animal Facility following SOPs to ensure compliance with the IACUC.
• Maintain inventory and organization of Animal Facility supplies and order as required.
• Report Animal Facility status and communicate daily with Supervisor.
• Proficiency in various routes of injection such as subcutaneous and intraperitoneal.
• Collect blood samples.
• Perform necropsy for tissue collection.
• Monitor tumor growth and measure tumor size.
• Willingness to learn advanced in vivo techniques and assist with development of animal models of inflammation.
• Assist with in vitro tissue and sample preparation.
• Perform in vitro assays, such as ELISA, and cell culture.
• Data collection and organization.
• Performs additional job-related duties for husbandry and research support as required.
• Maintain daily records.

Overview

The Research Associate provides daily care of research animals, including performing basic husbandry duties. Responsible for maintenance of the Animal Facility including regular facility sanitation. Performs in vivo research support duties such as sample collection, data collection, treatment dosing, and can develop new skills as required based on research needs. In addition, the Research Associate may assist with vitro assays and cell culture, schedule permitting.

Compensation Statement

The expected base salary for this position is: $42350.00 to $55000.00. We are committed to compensating employees equitably based on several factors including experience, education, licensure/certifications, skill level, location of the position, and availability of similar talent in a competitive market. Subject to eligibility and applicable plan terms, compensation includes base salary, annual discretionary bonus, long term incentive, 401(K) plan with employer contribution, health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.
